About Downtown Cookie Co.
Downtown Cookie Co., based in New York City, was created by Dan Guerrera in 2008.
Dan grew up in an Italian family where good food was central to life. His childhood was filled with healthy, hearty meals made from scratch using only the freshest ingredients. Dan watched and learned while his grandmother rolled out homemade pasta and his grandfather gathered fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden for everyday meals. In his own home, he became especially interested in desserts, working side by side with his mother preparing a wide variety of Christmas cookies, traditional cakes and homemade cannoli and cream puffs.
Dan's childhood love for dessert never left him. Early on while waiting tables in New York City Dan would linger in the pastry kitchen just to learn from the pastry chef. Over the years he honed his culinary skills taking baking classes, baking for friends, and even working in a bakery to keep his hands in the flour and butter.
In 2008, Dan committed himself full-time to baking. He discovered that when it came to cookies, there was a niche to be filled in New York. Cookies had always been his favorite dessert, but he was unable to find the dense, moist, flavorful type he remembered from his food-loving family. Each year, he'd travel the city, trying all the "best cookie" recommendations from magazines and newspapers, hoping to discover the perfect cookie. But he couldn't find what he was looking for. So he decided to create them himself. After much experimentation and (maybe a little too much) sampling in his small kitchen, he had the right recipes, and in 2008, Downtown Cookie Co. was born.
Downtown Cookie Co. offers seven varieties of cookies and ships anywhere in the continental United States.
Downtown Cookie Co.
Dense, delicious, handmade cookies created in a little kitchen in the West Village.
"For years I tried to find cookies like my mother baked - soft and heavy cookies where you can really taste the flavors of butter, chocolate, brown sugar and other real ingredients in every bite. I sampled cookies everywhere - bakeries, gourmet food stores and even grocery stores throughout the city, but nothing tasted quite right. I started experimenting in my own little kitchen in the West Village, sharing my cookies with friends and family. They wanted more. And their friends wanted more. So in 2008, I started Downtown Cookie Co.
My cookies are baked from scratch without any preservatives or additives. They contain nuts, gluten and dairy because I use butter, sugar, flour, peanut butter, chocolate and other natural ingredients."
