Read DCC’s history below. My latest update is that in January 2014, I sold our cookie recipes and all things Downtown to Hope, Faith & Gluttony. You can buy our cookies from Hope, who has changed nothing to make sure to keep our customers happy.
And me? Dan, the cookie man? I’ve moved on to work with the marketing company that took me to where I could sell the company. I am a partner now at Blue Shoe, where all things marketing take place and I handle, in my organized way, all things operational. I’d love to hear from you.
And, do read below to know about the history of the cookie company that I loved for five years and led me to so many people who are always with me one way or another.
So many choices, so little time.
Our First Born … Our Cookies
Let’s start with Downtown Cookies. Made fresh daily, our cookies come in a variety of options, from the traditional Chocolate Chip Cookie the way Dan’s Mom makes it, to our new Espresso Cookie with small flecks (yes flecks!) of fabulous roasted coffee beans that are perfect for a late afternoon pick me up with a cup of Joe from somewhere fabulous. Our coffee shop clients are selling them off with off the chart numbers! We have mini cookies as well. We call them three biters, but they could be one or two bites each if you are by yourself and don’t care how gluttonous you appear.
Our Newest Member of the Family … Our Confections
Moving right along to our confections made from the finest chocolate we could find in flavors and combinations that will blow your mind. Our caramel bites come in bags of three kinds of chocolate covered caramel, or if you prefer all dark chocolate, that’s cool too. You get a hint of salt, and a good bite of caramel – fresh caramel. And, our chocolate covered coffee espresso beans are a perfect combo with our Espresso Cookies, or go ahead, order a bag of just the chocolate covered beans.
We have learned over the past few years how important packaging is, so we offer a plethora of options for you. Want to send a cost-effective one pack for around ten dollars plus shipping to just say hello? Or, our two pack, three pack, variety pack, and our newest option, our Downtown Confection Square Glass Jar that will sit on the their counters or desks forevermore hoping to be filled with yet another DCC confection. We also have wooden boxes that can have your logo on them – burned on them – for a fabulous look to send as corporate gifts.
Our Custom Options
And, then there is our customization. We keep logos and labels in house for our corporate and small business clients so they can send out something to a potential customer whenever it moves them. We love doing it. We love coming up with a complete package of goodies and branding for your company that is in the price range you want to spend. We don’t want to brag, but did you work at AOL and get anything from them through us? Or, maybe one of the top law firms in the land? Ok, yes, Pepperidge Farm used our Stuffing Cookie from last Thanksgiving in their packages for their guests attending the Macy’s Day Parade. No one is too large or too small.
The Downtown Confections Story
Downtown Cookie Co., based in New York City, was created by Dan Guerrera in 2008.
Dan grew up in an Italian family where good food was central to life. His childhood was filled with healthy, hearty meals made from scratch using only the freshest ingredients. Dan watched and learned while his grandmother rolled out homemade pasta and his grandfather gathered fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden for everyday meals. In his own home, he became especially interested in desserts, working side by side with his mother preparing a wide variety of Christmas cookies, traditional cakes and homemade cannoli and cream puffs.
Dan’s childhood love for dessert never left him. Early on while waiting tables in New York City Dan would linger in the pastry kitchen just to learn from the pastry chef. Over the years he honed his culinary skills taking baking classes, baking for friends, and even working in a bakery to keep his hands in the flour and butter.
In 2008, Dan committed himself full-time to baking. He discovered that when it came to cookies, there was a niche to be filled in New York. Cookies had always been his favorite dessert, but he was unable to find the dense, moist, flavorful type he remembered from his food-loving family. Each year, he’d travel the city, trying all the “best cookie” recommendations from magazines and newspapers, hoping to discover the perfect cookie. But he couldn’t find what he was looking for. So he decided to create them himself. After much experimentation and (maybe a little too much) sampling in his small kitchen, he had the right recipes, and in 2008, Downtown Cookie Co. was born.
Downtown Cookie Co. offers varieties of cookies and chocolates and ships anywhere in the continental United States.
